1st NINE WEEKS-

·         Literary elements: dynamic character, character analysis,

·         Grammar:  review of parts of speech, passive/ active verbs, subject verb agreement

·         Writing: descriptive writing, persuasive writing, denotation vs connotation, transitions

·         Major work:  Fast Food Nation/ movie- Supersize Me

·         Propaganda in Advertising Research

·         Summer reading assessment

2nd NINE WEEKS-

·         Literary elements: setting, symbolism, figurative Language, voice

·         Grammar:  pronoun usage, conventions, parallelism

·         Writing:  word choice (diction), rhetorical devices, Literary Analysis

·         Major work:  Their Eyes Were Watching God/ movie- Color Purple

·          Harlem Renaissance research

·         Major work- independent reading-  Like Water for Chocolate

3rd NINE WEEKS-

·         Literary elements:  Tone, theme, Elements of drama

·         Grammar:  double negatives, usage-most common mistakes

·         Writing: Review all elements of FCAT Writing

·         Major work: Antigone

·         Greek World research

4th NINE WEEKS-

·         Literary elements:  style, Point of View

·         Grammar: punctuation, conjunctions

·         Writing:  Sentence fluency, compare and contrast, poetry analysis

·         Major work:  Julius Caesar; The Shakespearean & Petrarchan sonnet

 

Short Stories/poems:

Sound of Thunder, The Pedestrian- Ray Bradbury; The Son from America- Isaac B, Singer; Getting a Job-Maya Angelou; Salvador Late or Early- Sandra Cisneros; Woman- Nikki Giovanni; The Man in the Black Suit- Stephen King; Assorted Shakespearean sonnets.
